The second annual Spears, Beers, and Fish Decoy Show will be held Saturday, November 20th, 2021, at the Lean To Tavern in Bejou, Minnesota.
Show hours for the public is 9 am to 3 pm. Social hour is all day. Probably an admission as they had one last year. Show is hosted by Northern Spiked spearfishermen. They also have a MN Dark House Chapter up there, so this should be a very well attended show. Expect about 30 vendors, carvers, artists, and spear makers. Good little show at the right time of year. Concessions, beer , and gambling is available at the Lean To Tavern. I think Bejou is French . Story is that when the Vikings came up the Red River they stopped at the French settlement, Bejou, to trade fish decoys for live catfish bait. Sounds about right. The 6th annual Fish House Festival is back after 2 years of covid interruptions. The New York Mills Cutural Center and the National Fish Decoy Association, along with the organizers of The Gathering Show from Perham, Minnesota, host the Fish House Festival every July, to coincide with Lund Boats Lund Mainia Fishing Tournament and Festival. Ron Hamm of Frazee, MN, builds his 4x6 custom spear houses and area artists gather to each paint a side. We have numerous pictures up on our sister site www.nfdadecoys.org. This years painters are John Peeters, Jacob and Kim Sazama, Aryn Lill, Cheryl Bannes, and Nancy Valentine. While the painters are at work on the houses, other artists are carving and painting decoys for the upcoming 6:30 live auction. Lund Mania events start at 4 pm with the mini boat races, our auction, then the boat parade of tournament fishermen, the the beer garden and fish fry. Great fun in a small community. 6th Annual Fish House Festival comes to New York Mills, Minnesota With all the show cancellations from Covid the last two years, raising funds for the National Fish Decoy Association has been difficult, to say the least. Fortunately the NFDA had a supply of fish decoys from the National Contest where they sponsor a class called - eBay. This is a class where they can win ribbons and certificates, but their entry gets donated to the NFDA. In fact they can enter up to 3 times, as long as each decoy is a different species.
Those decoys plus some fresh donated decoys go up weekly on eBay , with the net funds going to the NFDA. The seller is E.l.Pout, or just search fish decoy NFDA. The auctions always run from 7 pm central time , starting every Sat. night, for 7 days. This has saved the NFDA ! Many collectors are stepping forward with purchase prices that reflect their concern for us. Most of the auctions are running from 500 to 950 views, so people are paying attention. Ongoing pandemic issues have prevented the scheduling and holding of events such as ours in Minnesota at this time. We do not expect state, local and facility restrictions to be lifted in time to allow us to promote and attach buyers or allow vendors to plan for and attend our Show. We are fully committed to resuming our exciting annual Show on Sunday, April 3, 2022. We have heard from many of you that you also are looking forward to the next opportunity to be a part of this show, see you many collector friends and reconnect with our many buyers. We are extremely disappointed that that can’t be this April. We will roll 2020 booth deposits forward to the 2022 show, and a email will be going to all who this will affect. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to navigate these challenging times.
